Each semester, GSA and SHRM-MSU organize a mentoring program for new students.
The primary objective of the program is to acclimate new students into the LIR School as quickly as possible. This is done by pairing all interested new students (mentees) with a second year student (mentor).
Mentors are responsible for the following:
- Providing the mentee with contact information (phone number, e-mail address).
- Providing mentees who are new to the area with a tour of Kedzie Hall, MSU and East Lansing.
- Answering mentee questions relating to LIR courses, book buying, the internship/job search, and extra-curricular activities.
- Introducing mentees to faculty members and staff.
The mentoring process is informal and it is what students make of it. A simple invitation to an LIR tailgate or football game goes a long way toward making someone's transition into the LIR program a bit easier. Finally, GSA and SHRM-MSU encourages all new students to take an active role in their experience here at MSU--academically, professionally, and socially.
