Materials to send to the School of Labor and Industrial Relations (401 S. Kedzie Hall).
The following items must be sent directly to the SCHOOL OF LABOR AND INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS:
- The Graduate Application Form and Fee.
- If you have not applied previously for admission into a Graduate program at MSU, complete the Graduate Application, indicating that the Code Number is "7650" and the Major Field is "Human Resources and Labor Relations ".
- If you are applying for financial assistance, check the appropriate boxes. The application form and the application fee (payable by check or money order, not cash) must accompany your application.
- If you have been previously admitted to another Graduate Program at MSU you do not need to submit another Graduate Application form.
- If you are presently enrolled in another graduate program at MSU, request an Internal Transfer form from us to submit in place of the MSU application form. The Internal Transfer form should be returned directly to our office. No fee is charged to process an Internal Transfer form.
- If you were previously a graduate student in another program at MSU but are not currently enrolled, you must complete an MSU Application for Readmission to Graduate Study. No fee is charged to process a readmission application.
- A brief Personal Statement, not more than two pages in length, where you describe your career plans and the role of a graduate degree in Human Resources and Labor Relations.
- Your Graduate Record Examination (GRE) Scores. Please ask the Educational Testing Service to send the School an official copy of your scores on the "general" test of the GRE. Be careful to specifiy the institution code (1465) and department code (4204). The MSU Testing Office, 207 Student Services Building (517/355-8385) has information about the exam (see their web page at: www.testingoffice.msu.edu/). If you are not near East Lansing, you should contact the GRE website at www.gre.org to find a list of testing locations.
You may also contact nearby four-year colleges or universities for information.
The GMAT is acceptable as a substitute for the GRE. However, your score will NOT be sent directly to our office. You must send or bring in a photocopy.
- Three (3) Letters of Reference. Please arrange to have three faculty members prepare letters of recommendation on department or business letterhead stationery. These letters MUST be attached to the reference forms provided. They may be returned to you to forward to us, or the originator may mail these directly to our office. Letters submitted on plain paper or on paper with a computer-generated letterhead will be returned for resubmission on official letterhead paper. We will be looking for information on your academic performance and your promise as a graduate student. Letters from employers may be sent in addition to academic references. These also must be attached to the reference forms provided. If you have been out of school for about five years or more, letters from knowledgeable employers may have to suffice.
- One set of official transcripts of all academic work completed in colleges and universities other than MSU. Applicants who have attended other colleges or universities must arrange with those registrars to have their official transcripts sent to us. If your transcripts are on file in another MSU department, additional official transcripts do not need to be requested. However, you must ask the department to forward copies to us.
In addition, you may want to send the School copies of research papers you have written, a current resume and any other information which has a bearing on your academic performance and potential.
It is your responsibility to ensure that all of the required materials are received in this office. If you are currently enrolled or have been enrolled in the past at MSU and are adding materials to those already on file, it is your responsibility to make certain that all of the materials requested are included in your application. If you are in another MSU graduate program, you must request that your current graduate department forward any application materials we require. Materials in your file will not automatically be sent to us.
