Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have an extension program, i.e., courses offered off-campus?
Yes, please refer to Master of Human Resources and Labor Relations (MHRLR) at Troy, Michigan.

Can I start the program in any semester?
Yes, we admit for fall, spring and summer semesters. The spring semester starts in January, as the summer semester starts in May, and the fall semester starts after mid-August.How do I get information on taking the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT)?
You may call the Testing Office at MSU at 517/355-8385. They can give you specific information as to available test dates, locations, and cost. Or you can check ETS's web site.

How do I get information on taking the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT)?
You may call the Testing Office at MSU at 517/355-8385. They can give you specific information as to available test dates, locations, and cost. Or you can check ETS's web site.

What courses do I need to take before applying?
None. Students admitted to the MHRLR degree program who have not completed an undergraduate statistics course, principles of micro-economics, and an introductory behavioral science course will be admitted on a provisional basis. Admissions decisions are not based upon whether the applicant has these prerequisites. Taking these prerequisites before applying does not guarantee the applicant will be admitted.

I need to talk to someone or come in for an appointment. Whom should I contact?
Please feel free to contact our office at 517/355-3285. If you call after normal business hours, please leave a message on our voicemail system. Cheryl Mollitor, the Graduate Program Administrator, is your first contact for information on the program.

What application forms do I need to be considered for financial aid, scholarships, and/or graduate research assistantships?
Scholarships and assistantships are based on merit rather than financial need. Assistance is given by the department to those students with high undergraduate grade point averages and GMAT or GRE scores upon entering the program. Returning students are weighed by their cumulative gpa in the MHRLR degree program.

For other types of financial aid or need-based aid, you should request this on the Application for Graduate Admission by checking the appropriate box, or you may contact the Office of Financial Aid at 517/353-5940, email: finaid@msu.edu, Web: www.finaid.msu.edu, or write to them at the following address:

Office of Financial Aid Michigan State University 252 Student Services Bldg., East Lansing, MI 48824-1113.

What are the current tuition rates?
Please check the information from the MSU Office of the Registrar.

Can I attend as a part-time student? as an evening student?
Yes. The time limit for completion of the degree is 6 years. The program is very flexible. You can choose to be either part-time or full-time at your convenience without having to inform us each semester. You may also choose to take a semester off. Part-time students should note that not all courses are offered every semester, so careful planning is important for those students with deadlines for graduation. We offer approximately 3 evening courses each semester starting at 6:00 p.m., one night per week. We also have a "late afternoon' time slot: 3:00 - 6:00 p.m.
