Recertification for Certified Human Resources Specialists

When attendees of the CHRS workshop successfully complete the program and accompanying examination, they will be certified as a CHRS for a period of two calendar years following the program. At the end of this time period, they must become recertified if they wish to remain a designated CHRS for the successive two year period.

Due to the ever-evolving field of human resources, HRETC identified a need to require a recertification of the Certified Human Resource Specialist. By recertifying, attendees insure that they remain up-to-date on contemporary human resource topics and labor and employment laws. A recertification also demonstrates professionalism and commitment.

There are two options for recertifying: a continuing education regimen, or an examination route.

For the attendees who completed the CHRS program during the time period 2004- 2005, the certification period will be extended beyond the two year deadline as per the certification table below.

HRETC will send out an e-mail notification to all CHRS workshop participants when their recertification is coming due.

Timing of Recertification

The recertification period will be based on the calendar year January 1st-December 31st. Anyone receiving certification throughout the year will be valid for two years from the December 31st deadline. Applications for recertification will only be accepted between August 1st and September 30th in the year the certification is due to expire. Please see the following tables for valid dates for the initial certification and due dates for recertification. When attendees of the CHRS workshop are up for recertification, HRETC will send out e-mail notifications about the recertification.
