Recertification Requirements

CHRS's are now required to be recertified at two year intervals. They can fulfill their recertification requirement by demonstrating that they have completed 28 credit hours of related continuing education or by passing an HRETC provided recertification examination. This page describes the examination option.

Recertification Exam

CHRS's who are taking the exam to maintain their certification should complete the exam between August 1st and September 30th of the year in which certification expires.

Once the application and fee are received at HRETC, the exam will either be mailed to the applicant or it can be taken online. It is the applicant's choice which method will be taken. The recertification exam is longer than the initial exam given during the course. It is open-book and will be given on a pass-fail basis.

Exams should be submitted by mail or via the Web, depending on the option the applicant has selected, by September 30th in order for recertification to take effect.

If the applicant fails the exam, one retake is allowed. After this step, the course will need to be retaken to maintain certification.

Course Books are available for purchase in order to help applicants study for the exam.

CHRS's who opt to take the exam are not obligated to earn any credit hours toward recertification.

Forms and Fees

The application fee for the examination option is $150.00. Payment is to be submitted with the application form and any checks mailed should be made payable to MSU.
