FAQ
CHRS Recertification FAQs
- How do I pay for the seminar?
After you register, we will send you a confirmation letter with an invoice on the bottom which you can return with your check. We also take Visa, Mastercard, or American Express.
- When is payment due?
Payment is due by the seminar date; however, we understand late payments are sometimes unavoidable. Please mail your payment with the invoice provided on your confirmation letter or call with credit card information. You will not be denied admittance to a seminar if has not been received by the seminar date.
- How do I make out the check?
Make checks payable to: Michigan State University. Send payment to Human Resource Education and Training Center, Accounts Receivable, 423 S. Kedzie Hall, East Lansing, MI 48824-1032.
- If I cancel, will I be penalized?
Enrollees who must cancel their registrations must notify us at least two weeks prior to the seminar date to receive a full refund. Enrollees who cancel their registrations less than 14 days before the seminar date will be liable for a $350 registration charge to cover expenses made in advance with the seminar venue. Enrollees who fail to attend the seminar and who do not properly cancel their registrations will be liable for the entire seminar fee.
- If I cancel, will my name still be on the mailing list?
Yes, you will still receive brochures specific to your area.
- How do I get my name removed from the mailing list?
A phone, fax or e-mail request will quickly remove you from our mailing list. Brochures addressed by title or company (without an individual's name) are purchased and we, unfortunately, have no way of removing these mailing addresses ourselves.
- I'm on the waiting list for a seminar. Will you call if there is an opening?
Yes. Even if you're not on the top of the waiting list, there is a good chance you will be called or paged, if requested. Most cancellations occur a week before the seminar.
- What is the dress code for your seminars?
Our goal is that you are comfortable, so our atmosphere is traditionally casual. Coats and ties are optional; business casual is the attire of choice for most participants. We suggest you bring a sweater in case the room is chilly.
- I didn't get a confirmation letter. How do I get one?
Please let us know if you did not get a confirmation letter; it may mean your registration did not reach us. Contact us with the registrant's name and seminar and we will send you one.
- There is an error on my confirmation letter. How do I correct it?
Contact us with the correct information.
- What is your Federal I.D. number?
38-6005984
- Can I get Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) by attending one of your seminars?
Because of the wide variety of people who attend our seminars, we don't arrange in advance for CEU's. If a certificate or a letter showing that your attendance would help you get a CEU, we are always happy to do this. Often a brochure for the program and a certificate are enough to get CEUs.
Recertification FAQs
- Why should I recertify?
CHRS’s should recertify in order to stay abreast of developing Human Resource topics as well as to continue to use the nationally recognized CHRS designation in their professional setting. By staying certified, you will ensure that you possess up-to-date knowledge of labor and employment law and are familiar with the best practices in human resources. A CHRS designation is a signal to employers that you are committed to your field and are willing to develop professionally.
- What kinds of courses or programs would be acceptable to counting towards recertification credits?
Because HRETC stresses the importance of Human Resources as a strategic partner in business, a variety of courses will be accepted as valid toward recertification. If you are uncertain, you may fill out a Pre-Approval of Courses form, which is available on our website, and send it in to our offices to verify the number of recertification credits you will receive.
- How long do I have to complete the recertification exam?
The recertification exam should be received at our office no later than September 30th of the year in which the certification is due to expire. Exams will be mailed out to applicants as soon as the application form and payment have been received. Therefore, those choosing to recertify by the examination option should apply soon after the application process opens on August 1st.
- What happens if I let my certification expire, but want to recertify?
If you want to recertify and your certification has been expired for less than two years, you may complete the exam option only. Upon passing this exam, you will be recertified.
