Police Union Executive Leadership Program
The Police Union Executive Leadership Program is first in the nation to provide current and future police union leaders a graduate level, comprehensive learning experience to prepare them to more effectively manage and lead police unions in their dual efforts to serve the public and represent their members.
Participants gain insights into the complex political, social, and economic forces that shape their operating environment; exchange perspectives with faculty and practitioners who are internationally recognized for their expertise on police and labor issues; and develop relationships among people doing similar work for local, regional, national and international police unions.
The Police Union Executive Leadership Program currently conducts an annual week-long certificate program with a core curriculum that includes emphasis on: police leadership and managing organizational change for the 21st Century; strategic planning for police unions; police union administration; collective bargaining and labor relations; grievance handling and preparing for arbitration; communications and public relations; political action; and influencing public policy. Other topics that may be incorporated into the week-long program include: updates on Workers' Compensation; trends in employer-sponsored health care benefits, and making best use of information technology.
The 5th Police Union Executive Leadership Program is scheduled for October 22-26, 2007.
Lodging and classes will be at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center on the main campus of Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan. Click here to view the brochure for the 2007 Police Union Executive Leadership Program. Police program brochure 2007
